Hurricane Irene Hits U.S

                 Hurricane Irene started in the Atlantic ocean so it is called an Atlantic Hurricane. The hurricane was so devastating that it swept threw the Caribbean, the U.S.A, and even went all the way to the north of Atlantic Canada. Hurricane Irene flooded houses, destroyed buildings, and killed an estimate of 56 people. The hurricane made the Caribbean lose over 3.1 billion dollars. It made the U.S.A lose over 7 billion dollars. All in all, the hurricane cost a devastating 10.1 billion dollars. The speed of the winds were 120 MPH. It was one of the worst hurricanes in history.

             Occupy Wall Street is the one of the biggest protests of the year. Occupy Wall Street is people protesting because they are not getting enough money from work. For instance, a banker who works normally gets paid $1,000,000 dollars a year. On the other hand, a hard- working teacher only gets the most $100,000 dollars a year. These complaints led to huge protests about how unfair this is. Some people are against Occupy Wall Street, but most of the U.S is all for it. Occupy Wall Street has been present since September 17.

 

 


                                                U.S Troops Withdraw From Afghanistan

      For 10 years the US army was in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban army. The U.S. wanted to teach the Afghanistan government to learn how to defend themselves on their own. It might be hard to take all of the men out of the country before 2014 because US NATO allies moved out of Afghanistan a while ago.

           On January 8, a gunman started shooting into the crowd that was waiting to meet U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords. The man shot into the crowd and killed 6 people while 14 other's were killed. Christina-Taylor Green was killed.  She was born on 9/11/2001.  It and was really hard for some people to accept that she was born and died on a day of really big terrorist attacks. Another important person who was killed on that day was Federal Judge, John Roll. In addition to those people, Gabriel Zimmerman, who was Giffords's community outreach director, was also killed. The main person who was shot that day was Gabrielle Gifford's herself. She was "shot on the head at point-blank range". The person who was charged with the assassinations was Jared Lee Loughner. Although Gifford survived, she was unable to open her eyes for a few days after the attack.
